WordPress and WooCommerce
Custom plugins, themes and store logic are written in PHP, so any change beyond settings and page builders needs PHP skills.

A large share of the web still runs on PHP. We build new Laravel applications, extend WordPress and WooCommerce properly, and bring old PHP codebases up to supported versions without a risky full rewrite.
PHP development is building server-side web software in PHP, an open-source scripting language designed for generating web pages and handling HTTP requests. It powers WordPress and WooCommerce, and frameworks such as Laravel and Symfony for custom applications. Modern PHP 8.x releases add enums, readonly properties, attributes, property hooks and a JIT compiler, and dependencies are managed with Composer.
Custom plugins, themes and store logic are written in PHP, so any change beyond settings and page builders needs PHP skills.
Portals, booking systems and admin dashboards where Laravel's routing, queues, auth and Eloquent ORM speed up delivery.
PHP runs on almost every Linux host and managed platform, which keeps running costs and hiring options broad.
When an application already works in PHP, upgrading and refactoring it usually costs less than rewriting it in another language.
Customer portals, internal tools and SaaS products with queues, scheduled tasks, role-based access and feature tests.
Plugins and block themes that follow WordPress coding standards and survive core and plugin updates.
Moving code from end-of-life PHP 5.x, 7.x and early 8.x releases to a supported PHP 8 version, using static analysis and automated refactoring to find breaking changes.
REST endpoints that let a mobile app, Odoo or a headless front-end read and write data in an existing PHP application.
Nginx or Apache passes requests to PHP-FPM worker pools sized for the server's memory.
Laravel or Symfony routes requests through authentication, CSRF protection and validation before controllers run.
Business rules in service classes and actions, kept out of controllers and templates so they can be unit-tested.
Emails, imports and third-party calls run as queued jobs on Redis, with Horizon or Supervisor keeping workers alive.
MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL with versioned migrations, plus Redis or OPcache to avoid repeated work.
Running a PHP version that still receives security fixes is the single biggest security improvement for most legacy sites.
PHPStan or Psalm flags type errors and dead code before deployment, which matters most in older, untyped codebases.
Compiled bytecode, route and config caching, and Redis for queries keep response times low on ordinary hosting.
Rector automates many version-upgrade changes, and tests are added around code before it is touched.
| Platform | What you get | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| WordPress / WooCommerce | Content management, plugins, themes and a store out of the box | Editors manage content and catalogs; custom logic is modest |
| Laravel | Full application framework: ORM, queues, auth, mail, testing tools | The product is a custom application with its own data model and workflows |
| Symfony | Reusable components and a highly configurable framework | Long-lived enterprise systems needing fine-grained control |
| Plain legacy PHP | Whatever the original developers wrote | Only as a starting point for incremental modernization |

Yes, for web applications, content sites and e-commerce. PHP 8 is a fast, typed and actively maintained language, Laravel and Symfony are mature frameworks, and WordPress and WooCommerce still run a large share of websites.
Usually upgrade it. If the business logic is sound, moving to a supported PHP version, adding tests and refactoring in stages costs less and carries less risk than a full rewrite. A rewrite makes sense when the data model or architecture no longer fits the business.
WordPress is a content management system with plugins and themes for publishing and selling online. Laravel is an application framework for building custom software with its own data model. Many businesses use both: WordPress for marketing pages and Laravel for the portal or app.
End-of-life PHP versions no longer get security patches, so known vulnerabilities stay open. Hosts eventually remove old versions, and modern plugins and libraries stop supporting them, which can break a site without warning.
Yes. A PHP or WordPress application can call Odoo's external API (JSON-2 in Odoo 19 and later, JSON-RPC or XML-RPC before that) to sync customers, orders, products and stock, typically through a queued job so neither system waits on the other.
