Editing the live theme
Changes made directly to the published theme show customers broken layouts while they're being built.

Your store is trading and mostly works. We make the specific changes it needs on a duplicate theme, with your approval, so sales aren't interrupted.
Shopify customization services are changes made to an existing Shopify store to add features, adjust design or change behavior without rebuilding it. Typical work includes editing theme templates and sections in Liquid, adding product page features, changing cart and navigation behavior, using metafields for new product content, and adding checkout extensions within the limits of your Shopify plan. Changes are built on an unpublished copy of the theme and published only after review.
Store owners usually know exactly what they want (a size guide, a bundle offer, a delivery date message, a different collection layout), but small changes made straight on the live theme can break pages mid-sale. Meanwhile, some requests, especially in checkout, are restricted by Shopify itself, and it pays to know that before spending money on them.

Checkout and some account pages have platform rules that differ between Shopify plans.
A monthly app subscription for a single badge or message adds cost and script weight.
Undocumented edits to a premium theme have to be redone by hand whenever the theme is upgraded.
Size guides, specification tabs, variant images, bundle offers, delivery estimates and trust content driven by metafields.
Mega menus, filter behavior, collection banners, sorting defaults and alternate templates for specific collections.
Cart drawer changes, upsells, gift options, order notes, free-shipping progress and cart attributes passed to orders.
Checkout branding, and on eligible plans, checkout UI extensions and Shopify Functions for custom fields, discounts or delivery logic.
Sections that match your current theme so marketing can add new content types to any page.
Changes isolated in new sections and snippets where possible and listed in a change log for future theme upgrades.

Yes, within Shopify's rules for your plan. All plans can brand the checkout with logos, colors and fonts in the checkout editor, and apps can add blocks to the Thank you and Order status pages. Shopify Plus stores have the widest options, including checkout UI extensions on the information, shipping and payment steps. Shopify has replaced the old checkout.liquid file with checkout extensibility, so code-level checkout edits now use extensions.
It can make updates more work, which is why we keep changes in separate sections and snippets where possible and document every edit. When a new theme version arrives, the change log shows exactly what needs to be carried over.
It depends on the feature. If a well-maintained app covers it cleanly, an app may be faster and cheaper; if you need one small feature or tight design control, custom theme code is often lighter. We recommend one or the other during the feasibility check.
We request collaborator access from your Shopify admin, limited to the areas we need. You can remove the access at any time, and no password sharing is required.
Yes. We review the existing theme and apps first so we understand how it was built, then make changes in a way that fits the existing code.
